Case Study 1

Tablet: Losartan

Press Type: FETTE PT3090

Tool type: B type tooling

Problem: The customer was experiencing sticking and picking on their lower tooling after just a few revolutions of the press. They had experimented with different press forces and speeds but were getting the same result.

Solution: The tools were sent to I Holland for automated polishing. Once returned to the customer they trialled the tooling without cleaning or other handling to determine whether this was an affecting factor. They also received two sets of CN coated tooling, the coating that TSAR~Predict had calculated to have the lowest single-particle adhesion.

Success: After trialling the CN coated tooling and the automated polished tooling, the customer informed us both sets had worked well, with no sticking observed. Of the two viable options, the customer opted to use coated tooling from then onwards., and have reported no problems since.

Case Study 2

Tablet: Losartan-Potassium

Press Type: : PTK /PR2000

Tool type: EU-D tooling

Problem: The primary issue reported by the customer was tablet sticking during compression, which was affecting product quality and production efficiency.

Solution: The customer’s The Research and Development team evaluated two alternative options using I Holland punches with HC (hard chrome) coating and CN (chromium nitride) coating. During the assessment, it was observed that the punch with HC coating still exhibited sticking issues when compressing their product, whereas the CN-coated punch performed without any such problems.

Success: After confirming the successful test results, CN coated tooling was supplied, with no sticking issues reported since.
