With an astonishing combined service totalling nearly 80 years, it’s little wonder that Pip Kemp and Dave Morton are described as the ‘A team/master grinders’ in the grinding world here at I Holland.
So not surprising that, when the age old concern of how to safely allow an employee to position a tool onto a centreless grinding wheel without using traditional guarding methods (which then obscures vision) re-surfaced during the training of new staff, it was left to Pip and Dave to put their experienced heads together. Combined with the natural canniness of the Maintenance team, Pip and Dave came up with a novel idea that effectively distanced the operators hands away from the hazardous grinding wheel.
Further revisions have developed a fencing foil type guard to offer greater protection to the employee’s hands during operation. Good work guys!
